You are keen to do your best in the exam to get that extra qualification, that promotion, that entry into a new stage of your life, which you have been working so hard for until now. You may be well organised – and have set yourself a steady pace of revision which promotes good memorisation and recall on the day - or you may not , because panic is slowly seeping in and your brain is refusing to switch on. Even best prepared, there is still this mixture of apprehension and excitement: Have I covered all the topics? Will I be able to recall all the knowledge in the correct way and use it, under the time pressure, to impress the examiner? If the examination is an interview, this may add to the daunting feeling, the butterflies in your belly, the dry mouth, the cold sweat, and the creeping fear up your spine…WHAT IF my mind goes blank? What if my body language betrays my nerves and lack of self confidence at that interview? Within a short number of hours, the exam or interview is over and your fate is decided and beyond your control.

So what can be done to maximise your chances to succeed?

Beyond the usual strategies of pacing your revision, organising your notes in the best possible way for your particular style of learning (visuals, mind maps, taping yourself explaining topics, filming yourself, miming words, etc) taking short breaks, eating well, exercising well, sleeping well, working with a coach or another person, lies the fundamental mind frame required for success: calmness, confidence, clarity, focus, efficiency. One session of Hypnotherapy is powerful enough to program your mind to enter the exam in the right state for success. Listening to a subliminal CD especially made for exam nerves is another possibility. It is a cheaper option, especially if you live far away from the clinic. You can just listen to the CD, in the comfort of your home, which will guide you into a state of relaxation and program your mind to be at its best for the exam.

Friarswood Hypnotherapy Clinic can provide you both options: One session of Suggestion Therapy or a CD can be arranged.

Contact Francois at 07964 768897 (from 4pm-6pm please) or e mail him at info@staffshypnotherapy-stoke.co.uk

Francois Rouffet.

Gratefulness: A cure to stress?

Dear Reader,

I once read that "it is physiologically impossible to be stressed and thankful at the same time". This I have found to be true personally, if put to practice. So what is so good about gratefulness and what can we be grateful for?

Gratefulness turns us away from a negative state of mind and focusses us on positive thoughts. You experience immediate relief.

Gratefulness will often put your life in perspective, especially if you are facing a difficult situation. It may give you the space to cool down and clear your head/emotions. Looking for something to be grateful for in a given difficult situation may bring you life changing insights and lessons for personal growth. Love your enemies....Why? Because they are your best teachers. They will point at what skills/strategies you need to develop to grow.

Gratefulness opens us to receive more. When someone says "thank you" to you, don't you feel more inclined to give them help /resources again?

Also, on the physical plane, science has discovered that positive thoughts have beneficial chemical effects on our bodies, whereas negative thoughts and beliefs have a destructive effect on our well being.

So what can we be grateful now? It is useful to set aside some time and write a list of all the things which you could or should be grateful for, no matter how trivial they are, especially the ones we take for granted. Treat this as a fun activity and jot everything which passes through your mind. There is always something to be grateful for, no matter your situation.

Once the list is written - you will be surprised how many items you will have compiled - revisit the list everyday. You may think of more items to add on. Read the list in the morning before getting up, or remind yourself mentally of what you are grateful for while you are brushing your hair/teeth so that you start your day in a positive frame of mind. Or before going to sleep. And smile when you do. Write a mini list and put it in your wallet/purse and access it at anytime during the day. There is wisdom in saying a prayer of thanksgiving before eating a snack/meal. "For what I am about to receive, may I trully be thankful" , say it quietly to yourself and feel the warmth of gratefulness that you are not starving or searching bins for food.....and while you are at it, chew the food slowly, very slowly. Take in all the flavours and you may save yourself future ulcers, feel more in control and possibly shed a few pounds naturally as you will feel fuller earlier and not feel the need to eat as much. :)

Francois Rouffet.
